Hi,

I am using Excel 2007 and am having difficulty linking a form control (a check box) to a particular cell.

I insert the check box via: Developer tab > Controls > Insert > Form Controls > Check Box.

Then I right click > Format Control > Properties > Object Positioning.

But the option "Move and size with cells" is always gray. It is difficult to manually size and position my check box and have it look presentable.

How can I "un-gray" the "Move and size with cells" option?

Thank you,
Chris

Excel Facts

How to find 2nd largest value in a column?
MAX finds the largest value. =LARGE(A:A,2) will find the second largest. =SMALL(A:A,3) will find the third smallest
Use an ActiveX CheckBox instead. ( Developer tab > Insert > ActiveX Controls > CheckBox )

To do that, you must add the Align button menu from the Drawing Tools tab to the Quick Access Toolbar.

Click the arrow next to the Quick Access Toolbar, and then click More Commands. Under Choose commands from, select All Commands.
In the list, select Align .
Click Add, and then click OK.

To align objects with the upper-left corner of a cell, on the Quick Access Toolbar, click the arrow next to Align , and then click Snap to Grid .

FYI, move and size with cells has nothing to do with lining a control up with a cell - it determines how it reacts when you move or size the cells underneath the control.
To align a control with the cells, hold down the Alt key while resizing or moving it.
As an aside, I would always use Forms controls in preference to ActiveX ones unless you really need the additional properties/events of the ActiveX version.
