Excel 2007 slowness to open files

Hello,
I just got 2007 installed on my work pc and trying to open files now takes up to 60 seconds to open (they are not large files). If I click on the minimize button right away however, the application pops back up immediately and opens the file. Or it seems to work if I already have Excel open then open the file. The other thing I notice is when I select to close out of the file after opened by clicking X, it closes the file but leaves Excel still open so I have to click the X again to close out.

Just wondering if there is some setting that I need to change that might open a file quicker?
