Tonight i want to transfer some excel files from my old PC (excel 2003) to my new PC (excel 2010)

I plan to do this via a portable hard drive.

My excel 2003 files seem to have a several minor issues, including
- when opening a file, the message box reads "unable to read file" and needs 2 clicks to open up.

IS there any risk in transferring each complete file across to my new pc?

Will any bugs etc transfer and cause the same issues on Excel 2010?

Is it safer to just copy and paste the stuff i want over to a new 2010 file?

Are there any other issues I should consider when transferring these files across?

Thanks in advance.

Can you sort left to right?
To sort left-to-right, use the Sort dialog box. Click Options. Choose "Sort left to right"
I'd just go for it...unless you have some compelling reason to think your Excel files harbor viruses or are otherwise corrupt. I have move data from PC to PC the same way (save all the files to a temporary storage medium, then copy to the new drive). But strictly speaking it would be safer to copy/paste. I don't normally do this until I have to! Once you're in your new system, add a button to your QAT for upgrading to the latest file format (xlsb, xlsx, or xlsm). Then you can switch to the new file formats as you begin using your files. If for some reason you need to share files with users who are on the 2003 Office Platform, just leave them as .xls files for now.
