Hi. My Excel 2013 model was working just fine and then I "improved" it by reducing the complexity (so I thought). i now have the situation that inserting/deleting or renaming columns takes 10GB of memory and 15-30 minutes and often crashes. if i look at the excel workbook whenever I do anything it recalculates the whole book. In 2010 I'm sure you could make changes to the data model and then click refresh to bring your pivots up to speed. Have i accidentally clicked something that forces a full recalc when anything changes?

Also clicking refresh it goes off and re extracts all 550,000 lines of data from the SQL tables. Is it meant to be doing that as I just wanted to refresh the pivots.

I just cant understand how inserting a blank column can use so much memory!!!! Any clues appreciated

Mike
