I'm using 2007 but saving workbook in 2003 format. When I try to copy a sheet from one workbook (2003 format) into another (2003 format) I get the error:

"Excel cannot insert the sheets into the destination workbook, because it contains fewer rows and columns than the source workbook. To move or copy the data to the destination workbook, you can selct the data, and then use the Copy and Paste commands to insert it into the sheets of another workbook."

I've looked through the threads and this seems to because of the number of rows and columns in the source workbook. However, my sheet is only 88 columns by 256 rows.

any thoughts?

I should also say that i tried copying and pasting but almost every cell has a reference to another sheet in it which automatically changes to include the path to the source book when pasted. I tried doing a search and replace for the book name to delete it and just leave the sheet name but excel didn't like it.

Excel Facts

Format cells as date
Select range and press Ctrl+Shift+3 to format cells as date. (Shift 3 is the # sign which sort of looks like a small calendar).
This might be a wild guess, but I think 2003 format may have less maximum rows and columns than 2007. If by chance there is just one cell outside the 2003 max row or col in the 2007 version (that maybe got put there by accident), it then of course could not copy it.

Maybe check all the rows and col's for where the last cell truly is.

Or try just copying the desired rows and col's cells instead of the whole worksheet, to see what happens.
