Excel file which with linked graphs opens automatically when I open Word document with the linked graphs

Hi all,

I am using Excel 2007 and I have linked some graphs to a Word document. Everytime I open the Word document the graphs update with no problems. However, lately when I open the Word document the Excel file with the linked graphs automatically opens. The Excel file is blank when it opens. Why does this happen and how can I stop this from happening? I am using Word 2007.
