Excel links not updating

We have multiple sites, multiple budgets and multiple links to multiple excel files. We are using Excel 2007 and the error we are getting with files not updating is causing all sorts of problems. When we look at the links there is a difference in the file locations even though the links are exactly the same. One link show \\brdcsvr 01\acts\2010-11 Finanical Year\2011 Budget\file name and the other link (even being linked yet again) will say \\brdcsvr 01\2010-11 Finanical Year\2011 Budget\file name (droping the acts section). Do you have any idea what would cause this problem. Thanks HannieB

Home, Conditional Formatting, Highlight Cells, Duplicate records, OK to add pink formatting to any duplicates in selected range.
It may be possible that the link is too long (at times there can be problems with paths being too long). Too many sub folders, etc. Try moving everything (and updating links) to your C:\ drive and see if it works that way. If it does, then there's a good chance that the paths are just too long.

Thanks for your response Sal, the problem is intermitent and doesn't prejudice against longer directories. We have ruled out Trust Centre Settings (all correct) and automatic calculation is active as well as making sure no cells are formatted as text etc. Even if the source file is open it does not recognise this link and trys to refer to the full server directory which in any case is correct. Given the security structure within our server network we are unable to shorten the file path.

Hi Sal, as a complete newbie to these types of forums I really appreciated the help received. Made me think of different avenues for problem solving. HannieB
