Excel SQL Speed Advice

Hi,

I wrote some SQL on a button in excel that pulls back a specific record which then allows the user to update it however is needed. The problem is the speed of running the update query etc from excel.

When the database is open it is pretty much instant but I dont want to keep asking people to open the back end up to improve the speed as I've created the front end for a reason.

Is there any way to maybe keep a permanant link between the two or open the DB without it appearing on the bottom of there screen.
