Have hit a problem using Tables...

Using the Tables functionality in creating a database, I've tried to create a named formula: Excel won't allow me to use [ heading ] or [ @heading ] as elements in a formula. Am I doing something wrong or am I forced to use $a$1:$a$5000 and $a1 instead - or alternatively create a dynamic range name instead ?

I'd hoped that Tables was an easy way to avoid creating dynamic range names !

Thanks

Excel Facts

Return population for a City
If you have a list of cities in A2:A100, use Data, Geography. Then =A2.Population and copy down.
Sorry to bump on this...perhaps I can rephrase to get the answer (nothing on the web on this)...

I've an Excel database formatted as a Table - Table's use structured referencing (e.g. [this column] [@ this record] ).

In extracting analyses, I'm using a sumproduct formula - but it doesn't accept the bracketed structured references, seeking instead the long-hand $a$2:$a$10000 etc.

Is this just a Tables issue, or is there a workaround ?

Thanks
