I have a worksheet of names down column 1 and in row 1 I have weeks going out to say week 10.

I have another worksheet that lists in column 1 ID's in column two names of places.

What I want to do in worksheet one is be able to pick from worksheet two names of places for each name for each week. HOWEVER, from week to week no user can pick the same name from a previous week.

How can I accomplish this in excel?

SO, I pick Buffalo for week1 in week2 and on I cannot pick buffalo again. If I do I want to be warned that I already picked that place and what week I picked it in.

Hello, mme1
Welcome to the Board !!!!!

this looks like a "shrinking" validation-list
but before responding in detail I would like to see what you're exactly trying to do

please display some tables you want to use with a little more exaplanation
(not to many "words" but easy to understand examples)

use Colo's HTML Maker utility for displaying your Excel Worksheet on the board

On the "Excel Questions" main page there is a link to HTML Maker FAQ. You'll find out how to post correctly.
On the main page of the Forum there is a link to a Test here forum and a link to About this Board - to ask questions about HTLMMaker ...
please take your time to test and read carefully the FAQ !!

kind regards,
Erik

What I want to do is in this sheet is allow the user to select cities from the PLACES worksheet (almost as if it were it's own table) so I can be sure that the city selections are consistent.

But the catch is the person selecting the cities can't select the same city twice. I need to be flagged if they do So that in the example above Jim selected Buffalo in Week 1 and in Week 8. I need to be flagged that Jim
selected Buffalo again in Week 8.

I'm just not sure how to allow the user to select from a pre-defined list of in this case cities and then compare each week with the week or weeks before it to see if they duplicated a city?

I'm quite sure to have a very good solution, but as said I need to SEE your thing: thousand words cannot replace some clear tables

see my previous post
but before responding in detail I would like to see what you're exactly trying to do
plus you received all info and links how to do it
