searching for help in excel used to be quite easy in 2003. simple questions would have simple answers. now it seems every time i ask a question it searches an online database and the results i get are articles, forum posts, random stuff, as opposed to specifically targeted towards my question. is there some way i can access the more simplified help or is that not available in 2007?

Excel Facts

What is the shortcut key for Format Selection?
Ctrl+1 (the number one) will open the Format dialog for whatever is selected.
Hi

I'm not sure if this is what you mean, but if you press F1 to bring up the Help dialog then next to the search box there is a 'Search' drop down menu - From there you can select 'Excel Help' (second from bottom on mine)

Does that help?

To be more precise it's "excel help" under the heading "Content from My computer" Anything from the other section (including another "excel help" links to the web.

ahhh that does indeed seem to be what i'm looking for - the option to search "content from this computer" part. thanks man!

in your experience do you find the online help part to be better? i realize its more comprehensive but it seems less targeted.

i love your sig!!
