There is a tool that we use that formats the final report as an excel file.

Can this be bypassed and save as a text file? Here's the rub... I need the text file to not have any formatting. I've played with this but the file saves with a bunch of dashes and that is not what I need.

Excel Facts

How to fill five years of quarters?
Type 1Q-2023 in a cell. Grab the fill handle and drag down or right. After 4Q-2023, Excel will jump to 1Q-2024. Dash can be any character.
Just out of curiosity

Why do you want to export a formatted report as text?

If you want the data, couldn't you export some queries or tables?

If it's a macro that exports it to Excel, you can just change the Macro output type to .txt. You have several choices including .rtf, .snp and .pdf to name a few.

jackd - the access program does a few things well, but then the group has to create a txt file that an additional program (that we cannot change) needs as an input. we were trying to take out a few steps by having it export to txt, reducing the errors that are happening when this is exported to excel then to txt.

swGeof - we have done that, but the txt file comes back with dashes all around the data. we were trying to get it to not have those dashes around the data.

I've never seen output that puts dashes around data. It's unclear to me what causes this. Can you elaborate ... what is the data (table, query, report, script), and how is it precisely being exported? Or, what do you mean by "we have a tool" here... (if its a third party utility you may need to talk to the vendor).
