Extract the middle 6 charecters in a cell

Hi,
I have a report that has data similar to AE123450 entered in a cell. I want to have only the middle 6 charecters E12345 appear in another cell. Is there a function that will do this?

Will your data always contain 8 characters?
If so: =MID(A1,2,6)
