How do I NOT give viewers of my file the option to click "Edit Anyway"? I have set the file to open as read-only but I want to set the file to open as a new read-only file unless they have the password. Thanks for your help
You can protect a workbook or worksheet in Excel. Click on the Review tab and look at the Protect section. You will be able to define what the user can and can't do on the worksheet.
Keep in mind that the protection isn't extremely strong. A determined hacker can get around it.
BadgerRoad. Thank you but that did not solve my dilemma. I do not want the "Edit Anyway" button to appear. I want people to access the file but ONLY as a READ ONLY.
Then I would remove the read-only permission and protect the workbook as badgerRoad suggested. That way, the workbook is technically editable, but you're restricting it from being edited in another fashion.
