here is a screenshot. I assumed if i applied a filter on my tables within Power Pivot 'Data Model', it would filter the values available in a pivot table.. it didnt.

what is this filter used for ? or what did i do wrong? how do I filter my table to limit data values availble for use in pivot tables. thanks

Customize Quick Access Toolbar. From All Commands, add Speak Cells or Speak Cells on Enter to QAT. Select cells. Press Speak Cells.
Filtering in the Power Pivot Data Model doesn't filter or remove the underlying data. Either the source (Tasble?) or Query should do the filtering. OR create a second column to do the filtering, even if it's a copy of the Date column and use it to filter.

thanks. so why do you think the filtering functionality exists within the Data Model, what is its use?

No, it does NOT exist in the Data Model. The underlying data is still there.
