Filtering Column with Merged Cells

Good afternoon!

I have a worksheet with filters, and I want to filter on a column which includes merged cells. Unfortunately, when I do this, only the data in the first row is displayed, not the contents of the merged rows beneath.

Is there a solution other than to unmerge and repeat the cell values in the previously merged cells?

Agreed, the best way is to unmerge the cells.

I also would love to keep data behind those hidden cells.
I found out today that if you use the format painter to merge cells, you keep the data behind. This is quite tedious and unreliable though. Also I can't find any way to put data behind the merged cells (besides true/false)
