I download my company's bank statements monthly, and sort the transactions by check number. This month, the beginning check number was 3126 and the ending check number was 3348. However, there were a few checks that have not been cashed and therefore do not show up on the statement. What is the quickest way to identify what check numbers are missing in the sequence without manually scrolling through and finding missing check numbers? Thanks!

hello scott and welcome to the board

as an example, if A1:A100 contains your check numbers, you could place the following formula in cell B2:

=IF(A2-A1=1,"","X")

and copy all the way down to cell B100.

whenever there is a missing check number, an 'X' will show up in column B where the skip in sequence starts. modify this to suit your own needs. would this work for you?
