find totals for a month

start date end date forecast sales per day
1/1/2011 1/5/2011 2500
1/2/2011 3/20/2011 4000
1/5/2011 2/3/2011 5000

I need to know the sum of the forecast for jan

not sure how to do this

start date end date forecast sales per day
1/1/2011 1/5/2011 2500
1/2/2011 3/20/2011 4000

10000 =2500* 4
116000 = 4000* 29
130000 = 5000* 26
=256000

there are 4 days between 1/1/2011-1/5/2011
etc.

i want to make totals for each month jan-dec but my date ranges span multiple months.
