First and last months for a previous six months period of today's date.

I want to find the first and last months, and the years, for a previous six months period of today's date.
e.g.:
a) Today, the previous six month period first month is July (year 2012) and last month is December (year 2012).
b) If today's date is, say, March 5, 2013, the previous six month period first month is October (year 2012) and last month is February (year 2013).
