Fit text in one cell without using "Shrink to fit" option

I'm creating a spreadsheet that lists multiple URLs in several different cells. I'd like to list the URLs vertically in the cells (using Alt+Enter and putting each new URL on a separate line) but I do not want to wrap the text and I'd rather not use the "Shrink to fit" option. I also don't want the URLs extending beyond the right side of the cell when there is no data in the adjacent cells.

Is there another way to store multiple lines of data in a cell without changing the length or width of the cell and without long text strings extending beyond the right side of the cell?

This was hard to describe in words. Hopefully you understand what I mean..

You can teach Excel a new custom list. Type the list in cells, File, Options, Advanced, Edit Custom Lists, Import, OK
If you use Alt+Enter Excel automatically sets the cell to wrap text. You can turn off that setting afterwards (Format|Cells|Alignment tab). To prevent the text extending into the cell to the right put something in that cell, even if it's just a space or ="".

Alt+Enter won't work without Wrap Text being on, so you're out of luck there.

Ok, figured I'd check the forum before giving up. Thanks for the quick responses.

Andrew - I'll use your suggestion and enter in a space where I need it.
