I want the contents of a cell to look like ***** when I type a number in. However, I want the contents of the cell to be the actual number. Any ideas. Thanks.

Excel Facts

Why does 9 mean SUM in SUBTOTAL?
It is because Sum is the 9th alphabetically in Average, Count, CountA, Max, Min, Product, StDev.S, StDev.P, Sum, VAR.S, VAR.P.
Yes - I get the ***** in the cell. Furthermore now, I don't want the number to show up in the formula bar.

---I can hide the formula bar from view, but can I keep the user from going into the options and choosing to view it (and can I put that restriction to view the formula bar on just one workbook?)

Press CTRL + 1, on the Protection tab uncheck Locked and check Hidden then protect the sheet
