formatting output within formula

I've seen it done where you can format the output of a formula within that formula. For instance, you might want to return just the month from cell A1, but perhaps in three letter format, or in two digit (01, 02, 03... 12) format. I've searched for help on this topic unsuccessfully. Does anyone have a suggestion of where to find a "how to" on how to do this?

I know I can format the cell to do it, but I want to be able to do it as part of a formula so it can be used in a CONCATENATE formula and look the way I want it to.

Hi,

I think you should use TEXT function. Check it out in help file.

But you could ofcourse just format the cell as well.
