Formula count number names in column excluding 0

I have a column with list of names but there are some zeros in that column. What is the formula to only count the names and exclude the zeros

example

Dave Myer
John Doe
Stacy Keach
0
0
0

Count should equal 3

COUNTIF should work, as long as you don't have blanks:

=COUNTIF(A1:A6,"<>0")

Using >< instead of <> ignores all numeric values.

Thanks for all the input. I forgot one thing. The column with the Names also has a formula in it. So what is happening is when I add the formula for the count function it also counts all the formula

=IFERROR(INDEX(List_Tier,MATCH(0,COUNTIF($B$2:B6,List_Tier),0)),"")

The formula suggested by HOTPEPPER will count only cells that contain TEXT entries while excluding cells with formula blanks.

So, it should do what you want.
