Formula format ISERROR(VALUE)

Hi,
I am trying to create a new column "B" to check whether the content in column "A" is "Text" or "Number". But found errors in 2007.

=ISERROR(VALUE(A2))

But tested the same formula diferent machine with 2003 :
=ISERROR(VALUE(A2))
in 2003 the formula works fine..

Discrepancies exist in 2003 and 2007.

Works OK in Excel 2010 but why not use ISTEXT?

Are you sure calculation is set to automatic in Excel 2007? What happens if you press F9 key - do the formula results change?

If you leave Excel's default alignment alone, you can tell at a glance (as Peter's example illustrates); text is justified left and numbers right.
