hi,

I have the below table

<TABLE style="WIDTH: 191pt; BORDER-COLLAPSE: collapse" border=0 cellSpacing=0 cellPadding=0 width=255><COLGROUP><COL style="WIDTH: 48pt" width=64><COL style="WIDTH: 81pt; mso-width-source: userset; mso-width-alt: 3949" width=108><COL style="WIDTH: 62pt; mso-width-source: userset; mso-width-alt: 3035" width=83><TBODY><TR style="HEIGHT: 15pt" height=20><TD style="BORDER-BOTTOM: windowtext 0.5pt solid; BORDER-LEFT: windowtext 0.5pt solid; BACKGROUND-COLOR: yellow; WIDTH: 48pt; HEIGHT: 15pt; BORDER-TOP: windowtext 0.5pt solid; BORDER-RIGHT: windowtext 0.5pt solid" class=xl64 height=20 width=64>Name</TD><TD style="BORDER-BOTTOM: windowtext 0.5pt solid; BORDER-LEFT: windowtext; BACKGROUND-COLOR: yellow; WIDTH: 81pt; BORDER-TOP: windowtext 0.5pt solid; BORDER-RIGHT: windowtext 0.5pt solid" class=xl64 width=108>consumption</TD><TD style="BORDER-BOTTOM: windowtext 0.5pt solid; BORDER-LEFT: windowtext; BACKGROUND-COLOR: yellow; WIDTH: 62pt; BORDER-TOP: windowtext 0.5pt solid; BORDER-RIGHT: windowtext 0.5pt solid" class=xl64 width=83>result</TD></TR><TR style="HEIGHT: 15pt" height=20><TD style="BORDER-BOTTOM: windowtext 0.5pt solid; BORDER-LEFT: windowtext 0.5pt solid; BACKGROUND-COLOR: transparent; HEIGHT: 15pt; BORDER-TOP: windowtext; BORDER-RIGHT: windowtext 0.5pt solid" class=xl63 height=20>VIK</TD><TD style="BORDER-BOTTOM: windowtext 0.5pt solid; BORDER-LEFT: windowtext; BACKGROUND-COLOR: transparent; BORDER-TOP: windowtext; BORDER-RIGHT: windowtext 0.5pt solid" class=xl63 align=right>752</TD><TD style="BORDER-BOTTOM: windowtext 0.5pt solid; BORDER-LEFT: windowtext; BACKGROUND-COLOR: transparent; BORDER-TOP: windowtext; BORDER-RIGHT: windowtext 0.5pt solid" class=xl63>Excess Stock</TD></TR><TR style="HEIGHT: 15pt" height=20><TD style="BORDER-BOTTOM: windowtext 0.5pt solid; BORDER-LEFT: windowtext 0.5pt solid; BACKGROUND-COLOR: transparent; HEIGHT: 15pt; BORDER-TOP: windowtext; BORDER-RIGHT: windowtext 0.5pt solid" class=xl63 height=20>AS</TD><TD style="BORDER-BOTTOM: windowtext 0.5pt solid; BORDER-LEFT: windowtext; BACKGROUND-COLOR: transparent; BORDER-TOP: windowtext; BORDER-RIGHT: windowtext 0.5pt solid" class=xl63 align=right>-2</TD><TD style="BORDER-BOTTOM: windowtext 0.5pt solid; BORDER-LEFT: windowtext; BACKGROUND-COLOR: transparent; BORDER-TOP: windowtext; BORDER-RIGHT: windowtext 0.5pt solid" class=xl63>OOS</TD></TR><TR style="HEIGHT: 15pt" height=20><TD style="BORDER-BOTTOM: windowtext 0.5pt solid; BORDER-LEFT: windowtext 0.5pt solid; BACKGROUND-COLOR: transparent; HEIGHT: 15pt; BORDER-TOP: windowtext; BORDER-RIGHT: windowtext 0.5pt solid" class=xl63 height=20>JACK</TD><TD style="BORDER-BOTTOM: windowtext 0.5pt solid; BORDER-LEFT: windowtext; BACKGROUND-COLOR: transparent; BORDER-TOP: windowtext; BORDER-RIGHT: windowtext 0.5pt solid" class=xl63 align=right>1</TD><TD style="BORDER-BOTTOM: windowtext 0.5pt solid; BORDER-LEFT: windowtext; BACKGROUND-COLOR: transparent; BORDER-TOP: windowtext; BORDER-RIGHT: windowtext 0.5pt solid" class=xl63>Excess Stock</TD></TR><TR style="HEIGHT: 15pt" height=20><TD style="BORDER-BOTTOM: windowtext 0.5pt solid; BORDER-LEFT: windowtext 0.5pt solid; BACKGROUND-COLOR: transparent; HEIGHT: 15pt; BORDER-TOP: windowtext; BORDER-RIGHT: windowtext 0.5pt solid" class=xl63 height=20>SAM</TD><TD style="BORDER-BOTTOM: windowtext 0.5pt solid; BORDER-LEFT: windowtext; BACKGROUND-COLOR: transparent; BORDER-TOP: windowtext; BORDER-RIGHT: windowtext 0.5pt solid" class=xl63> </TD><TD style="BORDER-BOTTOM: windowtext 0.5pt solid; BORDER-LEFT: windowtext; BACKGROUND-COLOR: transparent; BORDER-TOP: windowtext; BORDER-RIGHT: windowtext 0.5pt solid" class=xl63>Excess Stock</TD></TR><TR style="HEIGHT: 15pt" height=20><TD style="BORDER-BOTTOM: windowtext 0.5pt solid; BORDER-LEFT: windowtext 0.5pt solid; BACKGROUND-COLOR: transparent; HEIGHT: 15pt; BORDER-TOP: windowtext; BORDER-RIGHT: windowtext 0.5pt solid" class=xl63 height=20>VIV</TD><TD style="BORDER-BOTTOM: windowtext 0.5pt solid; BORDER-LEFT: windowtext; BACKGROUND-COLOR: transparent; BORDER-TOP: windowtext; BORDER-RIGHT: windowtext 0.5pt solid" class=xl63 align=right>10</TD><TD style="BORDER-BOTTOM: windowtext 0.5pt solid; BORDER-LEFT: windowtext; BACKGROUND-COLOR: transparent; BORDER-TOP: windowtext; BORDER-RIGHT: windowtext 0.5pt solid" class=xl63>Excess Stock</TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE>

under the consumption column I have this formula

=IF(ISBLANK(VLOOKUP(A2,Sheet2!A1:B5,2,0)),"",VLOOKUP(A2,Sheet2!A1:B5,2,0))

Under result column I have this formula

=IF(B2>=1,"Excess Stock",IF(B2<-1,"OOS",IF(B2="","no consumption")))

I just one problem, consumption formula works absolutely fine, I have problem in the result formula,
As you can see front of SAM it is blank, so under result column when there is blank it should say "no consumption" but it doesnt, because there is a formula in the consumption column. I do not want to delete the formula in the comsumption column, I want the formula under result column consider it as blank and give the word "No consumption" is this possible ?

Thank you
Ron...

Or function is also not working, if you try formula evaluate, you can see where there is blank, it is consedering blank as >1, thats the reason it says excess consumption.

Your "" is evaluating as a big number so your nested IF function never reaches it as the first part of this formula

=IF(B2>=1,"Excess Stock",IF(B2<-1,"OOS",IF(B2="","no consumption")))

Evaluates as TRUE

If you put it like this

=IF(B2="","no consumption",IF(B2>=1,"Excess Stock",IF(B2<-1,"OOS")))

it will work but if your B2 value is less than 1 but bigger than -1 it will return FALSE (which will be a problem in your original formula too as the final IF doesnt have a value for what happens if it evaluates as FALSE) so you need to modify the formula like this:

=IF(B2="","no consumption",IF(B2>=1,"Excess Stock",IF(B2<-1,"OOS","Whatever you want to return as a result if consumption is between 1 and -1")))

ok, in that case I just changed to this

=IF(OR(B2="",B2=0),"no consumption",IF(B2>=1,"Excess Stock",IF(B2<-1,"OOS")))

now it works...thank you all..

Yes that will work provided that your Lookup values are whole or Whole negative numbers.

As energman58 stated in his post what if the value is less than 1 but bigger than -1 it will return FALSE

SCALE:

-3, -2, -1, 0 1, 2, 3

Anything between a positve 1 and a negative 1 will error out, except for the 0

Looks like the 0 case is undetermined...
Code:
=IF(N(B2)>=1,
     "Excess Stock",
     IF(N(B2)<-1,
        "OOS",
        "no consumption"))
