I need a button that will take the info in cells A1 (represents "X, Y, or Z" in table), and put info in B1 (represents "Tom" in table) under the correct lable in A1.

Example: in this case, Tom should appear under column Y.

A1 and B1 should be blank after button is pressed.

Not sure I quite understand. It appears to me you're trying to take a value from A1 and move it or copy it to B1. Not sure what the cells XYZ have to do with it.

Bob, thank you for responding. The cell a1 that shows y ... can be changed via a drop down list to x, or z. Only one will be selected. When selected, Excel will know where to put B1 , Tom in the table. If x were in a1, then Tom would need to appear in table under x and not y. I hope this explains it a little better. Dale

If i could catch the meaning then you may use validation in "A1" for drop down list and also try this formula under x,y,z
