is there a formula, or a macro that will clear certain ranges in a spreadsheet without eliminating the formulas already in place? if i protect the worksheet will it keep the formulas and allow the data to be cleared?

Excel Facts

What did Pito Salas invent?
Pito Salas, working for Lotus, popularized what would become to be pivot tables. It was released as Lotus Improv in 1989.
Do you want to eliminate the cells that don't contain formulas ? then, you can record a macro like this:

Select all cells (Or the range that you want)
Press F5
Click on "Special"
Select "Constants" (You can restrict this to only numbers, text, errors or logical values)
Click Ok
Press "Del", or go to Edit | Clear Contents

Stop the macro.

No, all formulas return values. Once a formula is entered into a cell it will return a value 'til it has been eliminated.

Of course, in theory you could incorporate a "switch" in all your formulas that would cause it to return an empty string, "".

=IF(A1=something,"",[your formula here])

...but, I wouldn't recommend this.
