formula to replace blank cells with the data in cell above it

Help. I have a huge spreadsheet with names in Cols D and E and amounts in Cols P and Q. Sometimes the name fields are blank (due to reversals of paid amounts in cols P and Q.) I need a formula to run on Col D and E that would find blanks and replace them with whatever text is in the cell directly above it. Can this be done?

Excel 2003

Note: I had to copy past a small portion into Excel 2003 because of the Mr Excel HTML, but I have to work out of Excel 2007 because my reports are so huge. In above example, I need to replace the blank in D2 with the text in D1, D5 with D4, and so on.

Nevermind - I figured it out. I filtered by the blanks, selected visible cells only, and held the CTRL key down while I made the first blank = to the cell above it. It filled in the rest. I checked it and they were all correct.
