formulas not calculating

Formulas on my sheet only calcuate when i click on each individual cell, but just hitting Shift+F9 doesnt do anything. Does anyone know the cause of this? Is there any way to correct it? Thanks for any info.

Did you go to Options->Calculation->Automatic?

well, the workbook is too big to keep calcuations on and i have some macros running so i keep it off, then calculate the pages individually.
