I am trying to verify that my separate spreadsheets are all using a consistent formula. However, there are thosands of formulas, an just copying them to each sheet is not giving me the necessary results.
I am trying to use the FORUMLATEXT function.
Specifically, =formulatext(H18)
However, it keeps returning the value of #NAME?
What am i Missing?

Excel Facts

Will the fill handle fill 1, 2, 3?
Yes! Type 1 in a cell. Hold down Ctrl while you drag the fill handle.
Office 2010 Excel Version 14.0.7128.5000
I just noticed this function isn't supported in 2010 - is there another way to do this?
Also, it cannot be anything that requires a macro enabled file (xlsm), because recipients do of this file do have that access level

Hi

FORMULATEXT() was introduced in excel2013.

You can write a vba snippet to return the formula.

you can use the old Get.Cell method which shouldn't, if i remember correctly, require the file to be saved as a macro enabled workbook.

Go into the name manager ... under name type ShowFormula....in the refers to box....=GET.CELL(6,Sheet1!B2)....note that B2 is whatever the cell is on your sheet that contains the formula you want to display.

after you click ok go to the sheet in the column next to the first cell with the formula and enter 'showformula'

@Weazel

Good thinking, but it does indeed require saving as a macro enabled workook.

I'm afraid there's no way to do it wihtout some form of macro.

Maybe the UDF from the link shared earlier could be saved as an Addin, and then install that addin on your book.
Techincally that's still a macro, but you can use it in a non macro enabled workbook.
