Freeze Panes Question

I'm trying to use Freeze Panes in Excel 2007 so that ONLY the cells below and to the right of F10 will scroll. I've tried selecting cell G11 and then freezing panes, but the result is that rows 1 to 10 in columns G and beyond still scroll horizontally. Is there a way to freeze panes so that this doesn't happen?

Excel Facts

How to fill five years of quarters?
Type 1Q-2023 in a cell. Grab the fill handle and drag down or right. After 4Q-2023, Excel will jump to 1Q-2024. Dash can be any character.
Freeze Panes should work just fine. When you freeze at G11 do you see both the Horizontal and Vertical Freeze Pane delineator lines?

Yes. The problem is I don't want rows G and beyond to scroll at all above row 11, but when I select G11 and Freeze Panes all rows in columns G, H etc will scroll horizontally.

I might be missing something but if you freeze at G11 as Smitty suggests then your data MUST still scroll horizontally above that line other wise the data below the line will not be relative to the headings above.
Try using SPLIT instead

Whew, I just reread that....does it make sense ???

No, you're not missing anything. The headings are in row 11 and would scroll horizontally with the cells below them; the columns are in groups of 9 with each groups representing a fiscal quarter. Above that is the report header with the title, date, etc. I want to be able to scroll throught the quarters horizontally without scrolling the report header.

I'm not familiar with SPLIT, can you point me to where I can learn more about it?

I think we've got a wording issue here: Rows scroll vertically, while columns scroll horizontally. Do you meant that you want to fix the scroll area so that you can't go past a certain column on the right as well as the left? If that's the case you can use VBA to freeze the scroll area.

I want to be able to scroll throught the quarters horizontally without scrolling the report header.

If you add the header through Page Setup you won't have that problem, although you won't see the header until you print.

Hmm, as I mentioned, if you did that, the information below Row 11 scrolled across would now have no relationship with the headers in rows 1 - 10, which would make your data basically useless.
SPLIT is under window / Split instead of Freeze.
It allows you to move the location of the freeze line, but still won't let you do what you are trying to achieve.

I'm having trouble getting this across, let me try another way -

1. I don't want rows 1 - 10 to scroll at all.
2. Rows 11, 12, etc should scroll as usual.
3. Columns G, H, etc. need to scroll horizontally, but only from row 11 on. So I need a sort of upside-down "L" shaped area that doesn't scroll.
4. Unfortunately, I need that header to be visible before printing.

I hope that's clearer.

The content in rows 1-10 is not related to the data, it's just the report title, date, and a few notes. The headers for the data are in row 11.
