We purchase a list of names from a vendor that gave us about 5k rows. Our membership is over 150k. Of course we don't want to market to existing members, so I was going to use the Fuzzy Lookup AddIn for Excel 2013 to help find possible matches. (e.g. Sam Tzhaikovsky matches Samuel Tzhaikovsky and whatnot).

I've read the Excel AddIn's specifications and I like the methodology, but I've crashed my computer (64 bit) twice now. I was only doing comparisons on two similar fields - FirstName and LastName.

Does anyone who uses it have any suggestions on how to prevent crashes? Is processing efficiency affected by output variables and causing the crash? Are my lists too large?

Another coworker suggested doing something similar with a routine in SSIS and while it seems more complicated than the AddIn, it would process in the server instead of my machine.

Any ideas or suggestions?

Thank you in advance.
