Gray Sheet

Hello!

I had a strange issue while working today. one of the sheets in my database is showing me what looks like a gray background image instead of the sheet. It appears that I can still select some cells, (because I can see information in the formula bar) although I cannot see what it is I'm selecting.

This happen as I attempted to use my simple macro (ctrl+o; I have used it constantly for months without an issue) to shade a cell orange. Unfortunately, as is my habit, I immediately hit ctrl+s after this action.

My image here should be worth 1,000 words. ;)

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Prevent GETPIVOTDATA. Select inside a PivotTable. In the Analyze tab of the ribbon, open the dropown next to Options and turn it off
I repair PC's etc.
I would say it is a monitor problem or video card problem. Try another monitor first.

I don't believe it is either of these two things. Someone here had the exact same issues some time ago. For the life of me, I cannot remember exactly what the issue was, but I am certain it was not a hardware issue. I believe that they had somehow gotten into a strange view.

Try clicking different views, first trying the three symbols down in your lower right hand corner next to the zoom bar.

You may also want to check a few other things like:
- CTRL-HOME to see if that takes you back to the top
- make sure you aren't in some Print Preview Mode
- make sure your scroll lock isn't on

I'm pretty sure I know what you did...with the whole worksheet selected, you entered CTRL-zero not CTRL-O. It hid all of your columns. Use Unhide Columns and you should be back in business.
Hope that helps,

CTRL-0 (zero, not o) apparently hides whatever columns are selected. I selected all columns, pressed CTRL-0 and got the same image that was shown in the original post. If you have only a few columns selected, those will be hidden.

The original post mentioned that he had pressed ctrl-o. I just tried ctrl with all of the surrounding keys, and discovered the unexpected ctrl-0 behavior.

Thank you for the responses.

The columns were hidden. Simply unhiding them did not fix the issue though. I had to select all, paste into a new sheet and then unhide.. I'm not sure what was causing Excel to keep them hidden.

Thanks again for the responses!
