I was wondering if anyone has or knows someone who has the Guerilla Data Analysis and how they liked it?

Excel Facts

What is the last column in Excel?
Excel columns run from A to Z, AA to AZ, AAA to XFD. The last column is XFD.
sorry sand, didn't see your msg at first

I've read Guerilla Analysis and found it to be interesting. I don't do reports much at all nor am I an accountant, but it still had a wealth of information. What really wowed me was what you could do with Pivot Tables - I had never paid attention to them until I went thru this book. I'm no expert, but I've pulled off some amazing tricks with them, if I say so myself. It also teaches some basics - such as how to replace formulas with the values (helps shrink the size of a workbook).

Amazon has a feature for "searching inside" a book - have you tried it out?

Now - be warned - if you've never used Excel, this book won't teach you that. You have to now how to enter data & formulas in cells - the basics, select a range, use copy, pretty much all I did before I read the book!

thanks for your reply starl. i have used excel a long time and i was hoping it could teach a new trick or two. thanks for your help.

Well, if you want to learn new tricks and are fairly proficient in Excel, I would recommend MrExcel on Excel - that's more general than Guerilla Analysis.

Having bought both (any brownie points  ???), and been a "intermediate user" (i.e. dont know VBA, but know quite a lot of other functions) who does a lot of data analysis, both books are fantastic though I would agree with Starl in saying that Mr. Excel on Excel is a more general book. Guerilla Data Analysis is fairly indepth and specialist.

I already have "Mr. Excel on Excel" and "VBA and Macros for Microsoft Excel." So is it worth it for me to get Guerilla Data Analysis too? What does it have that the other Jelen books lack?

It shows you to use the analysis tools in more detail than MrExcel on Excel does.

If you go to amazon and look the book up, you can "Search Inside"

I bought Guerilla Data Analysis first, and learned quite a bit, and still refer to it occasionally.

About a year later I bought Mr Excel on Excel. Found it broader, which meets my needs better, and I use it just about everyday to pick up a pointer or refresh myself with stuff that I only use about every quarter.

I'm glad I bought them in that order, as I gained from both. Dad I done it the other way around, I'm not sure I would have treasured Guerilla as much.
