I have multiple groups of numbers of varying size and am looking for a formula to show the appropriate harmean using a fill down in column c rather than have to calculate each group independently e.g

Group Number Harmean
G1.............6.............8
G1.............8.............8
G1............12............8
G2.............3...........4.8
G2.............4...........4.8
G2.............7...........4.8
G2............10..........4.8

Thanks for any help as I am not sure how to tackle this problem.

Excel Facts

Formula for Yesterday
Name Manager, New Name. Yesterday =TODAY()-1. OK. Then, use =YESTERDAY in any cell. Tomorrow could be =TODAY()+1.

C2:

Control+shift+enter...

=HARMEAN(IF($A$2:$A$8=A2,$B$2:$B$8))

then copy down.

If the data set is too big, this calculation setup will be inefficient.

Thanks very much for the prompt help Aladin. I will experiment to find manageable limits (Excel 2007 and XP) and then copy and paste special values as I go to minimise problems.
