Have I been sleeping on data validation lists, or was always just ignorant.

I noticed today that I selected a column of 25 cells with only 3 unique names to use as a data validation list. when i clicked on the drop down the list was already filtered. Is this a fairly recent addition, or have I always misunderstood it? I have 365.

What build version are you using? I'm on 2301 and don't get that if I use something like =$B$3:$B$15for the list

I think it's fairly recent (still isn't available on my Mac beta version, but is in Windows build 2302).

Edit: just updated to 2303 and it's still there.

I was in a workbook i downloaded from the web. I just recreated on a New book as well:

I get the distinct list with xl online, but not with the desktop, so it must be new.

i use a laptop.
I signed up as an Insider, but I'm not really sure what that gives me.

Regardless, this is a good improvement.
