I have a list of part numbers and need to categorize them accordingly
for example certain part numbers have same class by which i sort, so my question is how to assign those class to the part numbers accordingly.

If you need more info I can always provide such thing just respond.

Excel Facts

How can you turn a range sideways?
Copy the range. Select a blank cell. Right-click, Paste Special, then choose Transpose.
so basically the first values is the value that i search for
second one are all of the values i searching thru
third is the cell where to put in
fourth is the FALSE all the time in this case

Pretty much

but use Aladins post, he gets rid of your n/a# if the number doesn't exist on the list

what part isn't working?

what message are you seeing... what are you typing and where?

It returns the same value for all lines, so the question then, do i have to set up such formula for the part numbers regarding one letter?
Because i wanted to it to recognize that

look at line 75 you'll see a W

but I just realized your part numbers appear multiple times in your reference sheet

Ok

1. You have 254 duplicates in the reference sheet.. and when i say duplicates I mean the MEMO/ITEM/CLASS are all the same

2. The formula that Aladin provided was better bcause sometimes you have values that don't appear in your reference sheet.
Change my formula in cell c2 to
Code:
=IFERROR(VLOOKUP(B2,'reference sheet'!$B$3:$C$2828,2,FALSE),"")
