Hi,

Is there a way that I can do the following; I have 5 columns in my spreadsheet. The first column is labelled 'Code' while the second is called 'Description, in the code column there are various codes i.e.

D183
D182

My problem is is that I have various codes entered more than once, is it possible to create a formula so that it tells me how many D183's are in the sheet?

Hope you can help, and thanks in advance

Excel Facts

Return population for a City
If you have a list of cities in A2:A100, use Data, Geography. Then =A2.Population and copy down.
Type the formula in cell A101

=CountIf(A1:A100,"D183")

to count the no of appearance of D183 in the range A1 to A100

Another solution is to highligh the column with codes, select Data|Pivot table Report and enter the codes tab in the rows & data field. This will give you the number of occurances for each code listed.
