Hi there,<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

I'm a bit of a learner when it comes to excel and really need some help with some formula's.

It’s a bit complicated to put into words but hopefully I will be able to explain it to you.

Firstly I have a number of different service lines but I’ve taken a snap shot of some of the information in one of them.

I need a formula that says …
IF B is “UK - Application Development” and H is marked with a X it will add the number of X’s up for me

AND

IF I has an X in, it will be subtracted from the number of X’s in H (Confused yet? I am) this also needs to be a count of just those in “UK - Application Development” as B will have a number of different service line’s in.

If anyone out there can make any sense of what I’m trying to do it would be a great great help as at the moment we are putting the totals in manually.

Thank you very very much.

Excel Facts

How can you turn a range sideways?
Copy the range. Select a blank cell. Right-click, Paste Special, then choose Transpose.
Possibly

=SUMPRODUCT(--(B1:B100="UK - Application Development"),--(H1:H100="X"),--(I1:I100=""))

Which 2nd one? That counts where B contains "UK - Application Development", H contains X and I is blank.

Hi there,

I thought I would need one formula which adds up all the X in UK - Application Development for coloum H and then another formula which takes away the number of X in I from coloum H (again within UK - Application Development) so I have 2 results.

Sorry im a real beginner at excel but really do appreciate your help.

Also, if you dont mind me asking do you know of any home or london based courses where I can learn this type of thing?

Thank :)
