Help with OFFSET named ranges causing problems w/ DDE merge

I have a workbook template which I have added to recently. This is used to mail merge data into Word. After I had added to the template, I could no longer establish a DDE connection to Word to mail merge. To cut a (very) long story short, I have narrowed this error down to 12 OFFSET named ranges which I have recently added. When I remove these, the mail merge works fine, but I need them to create two charts I have also added.

Has anyone else come across this and does anyone know a way around this problem. Thanks in advance for any help as I have no more ideas to try to rectify this now.

VLOOKUP to Left?
Use =VLOOKUP(A2,CHOOSE({1,2},$Z$1:$Z$99,$Y$1:$Y$99),2,False) to lookup Y values to left of Z values.
