Help with removing duplicate values in a data set

I have a data set and i've included an example.

I need to count the number of shipments. But 1 shipment can have more than one load. Therefore there are duplicated vehicle references - in column 3.

But i need to seperate out just how many actual shipments there are.

Could anyone lend a hand?

A pivot table should be able to do this for you.

thats what i thought, but it won't let me create it as it says there are more unique values than can be used - its xl 2003.

wondered if there was a if statement that could do it but i can't get any to work.
