Hide Details and Show Details (+) and (-)

Hope someone can help me… I know this is simple but I just can’t figure it out… I’m trying to Hide details the kind that you have a small (-) and/or (+) at the top of the excel sheet… but my (-) and (+) buttons in my tool bar are shaded gray.. They just don’t work.. I have already make sure that the “outline symbols” check box is checked in my option table.. but for some reason they are still grayed out and I just can’t use them.. any help would be appreciated.

Can I ask a couple of questions?

You are ... "trying to hide details but the "+" and "-" buttons on the toolbar are greyed out?" .... which toolbar exactly?

Does the sheet already have "outlined" sections or not?

Ok.. I feel stupid .. it’s been a long time since I used that function… I figured it out… that (-) and (+) was to open and close the already established grouping.. I guess I need to group something 1st before the (-) and (+) worked… sorry..
