Hello all,

Again I have a question that you guys sure can help me with. I have a sheet in which I have a number of formulas that I want to hide. I just want to avoid people from chaning, removing or adding anything to this formulas. I dont want to lock these columns in which the formulas can be found. I just want to stop people for viewing these formulas and to stop them from doing any alteration to them.

Can be this done? , if yes, how?

Regards,

Carlos

Excel Facts

What do {} around a formula in the formula bar mean?
{Formula} means the formula was entered using Ctrl+Shift+Enter signifying an old-style array formula.
Hi Carlos

You can do this with Worksheet protection: right click on the formula cells and choose Format Cells. On the Protection tab make sure Locked and Hidden are both checked. Then protect the worksheet (in 2010 this is on the Review ribbon).

But if I do this can people copy the data on those cells ? or they will not be able to do nothing?
I need to let people to copy the values not the formulas.
Can this be done?

Regards and thanks,

Sure - when you apply protection, make sure you tick "Select Locked Cells" - users can then copy the values (but won't copy the underlying formulas).

Ok, the problem with this is that I need to hide the formulas on a group of columns but the column B needs to be free for people to type in data, delete or change it...
So, the B column needs to be free for users to put data in and from C to the rest of the columns need to be protected in a way that users can't change the formulas in but they can copy the data from those columns.

Dont know if I make my self clear ... hope I do :)

You need to unlock all the cells that users will need to be able to amend data in - do this before you apply protection (means you just need to select the cells and go Format Cells>Protection Tab>uncheck Locked>OK>apply protection)
