Highlighting Question

Hey guys i need a hand with something,
I'm trying to give a value to cells by highlighting them. Each cell, in this case, would be worth 0.5 only if highlighted. The final sum would be displayed in a "Total" area. I have tried searching but i can't seem to find anything that is similar to this.

This worked perfectly thank you.
Now, Question 2. Because it is a UDF it doesn't calculate in real time, as you know, is it possible to make a button that activates a macro that will refresh the data within a protected spreadsheet?

You need to add the line in red, You will still need to press F9 to recalculate
