i have a sheet the i want to establish a formula to automatically add a text comment based on the values in a column.

Column D has values of 1-4. I would like to have the following post in Column E.

if D2 = 1 = No Activity
if D2 = 2 = Activity Noted
if D2 = 3 = Missing/Replaced
if D2 = 4 = Damaged/Replaced

i would like for it to continue from D2 through D40

I have tried the =ifnumber(search... and can only make it work for the value of 1.:(

any help would be greatly appreciated

Thanks

Byron

Excel Facts

Wildcard in VLOOKUP
Use =VLOOKUP("Apple*" to find apple, Apple, or applesauce
Start in E2 and copy it down to E40.

=LOOKUP(D2,{1,2,3,4},{"No Activity","Activity Noted","Missing/Replaced","Damaged/Replaced"})

not sure what you mean by this, all the values you have are aimed at D2 and if any of the numbers 1 - 4 are present then you want the stated return.

In D3, are we still lookiing at the same criteria?
