I have a line chart that plots the monthly weight of a patient. I would like to shade a the Ideal Body Weight range in the chart.

any suggestions?

Thank you so much.

Excel Facts

Format cells as date
Select range and press Ctrl+Shift+3 to format cells as date. (Shift 3 is the # sign which sort of looks like a small calendar).
I think there is an easier way to do this as that can get tricker than what you want.

For Excel 2007:

Data:
Column A = Date 8/1, 8/2, etc
Column B = Weight 210, 209, 207, etc
Column C = Min of Healthy Range 190, 190, 190, repeating
Column D = Max of Healthy Range - Min of Healthy Range 200-190=10, 10, 10 repeating

Steps:
1. Highlight Column A-D for all rows of data
2. Insert/Create a Stacked Area Chart (NOT 100%)
3. Right Click on the Weight data series in the Chart and select Change Series Chart type and select a Line Chart
4. Right Click on the Min data series and Select Format Data Series.
5. Select Fill and and choose No Fill

And you are done in 5 easy steps :)

I will post a video tutorial on my Blog later in the week if you can't get this to work. www.exceldashboardtemplates.com

Hi crestwood,

If you haven't been able to do this yet, i have posted a free download file that tracks current weight with a target weight band and a calculates the normal BMI range based on a height and puts that band in the chart as well.

Would love your feedback.
