How do I count New Customers per month

Column A = Order Number
Column B = Date Ordered
Column C = Customer #
Column D = Salesperson

I want to count how many new customers each salesperson got per month. The challenge I have is a new customer might buy more than once in the first month.

E2 downwards houses the salespersons of interest.

F1, G1, H1, etc. house each a month/year of interest as follows: 1-Jan-11, 1-Feb-11, etc., that is, as first day dates.

F2, control+shift+enter, not just enter, copy across, and down:

I was hoping for something that worked more along the lines of

=SUMPRODUCT((YEAR($A$2:$A$100)=$C$1)*(MONTH($A$2:$A$100)=MONTH(C2&0)),$B$2:$B$100)

(a found this formula in one of your earlier posts).

Steve,

That doesn't do unique counting. You appear to be interested in the distinct number of customers in a given month/year for a salesperson of interest. Right?

I think your query goes even further than a conditional unique count... The image you posted is not processable in Excel, alas. But consider:

Mark,CUS1,Jul-11
Frank,CUS2,Jul-11
Mark,CUS3,Jul-11
Mark,CUS1,Jul-11
Mark,CUS4,Aug-11
Mark,CUS2,Aug-11

What would be the expected results for Mark for Jul-11 and Aug-11?

Mark would have 2 new customers in Jul
CUS1 and CUS3
(even though CUS1 bought two times, they are still counted once as a new customer for Mark)

Mark would have 1 new customer in Aug
CUS4
(CUS2 could not buy from Mark because they bought from Frank in July and are therefore his for life.)
