How do you quickly identify filtered columns

When using filters the drop-down arrow changes to a small filter icon. I would like to have a more distinct way to readily indicate what columns are filtered with anything other than ‘select all’. Is there a way to apply conditional formatting to headings of filtered columns? Or some other way to more readily identify them?

I am not looking for a way to display the selected filters (though that would be intereseting), just a way to identify where filters were applied.

What is the shortcut key for Format Selection?
Ctrl+1 (the number one) will open the Format dialog for whatever is selected.
