What formula would I use if I want to determine how much time has lapsed between one cell and the next?

the cell is currently formatted as m/d/yyy h:mm

thanks

Excel Facts

Format cells as date
Select range and press Ctrl+Shift+3 to format cells as date. (Shift 3 is the # sign which sort of looks like a small calendar).
These don't look like valid formats - excel will treat these as text and hence your error, how is the time inserted - manually or by some other means?

There needs to be a space before the AM or the PM, if you insert that it should work

Are you manually entering times like that?

If you have times in place in that format that you want to change then use Edit > Replace and replace

A with

A [A preceded by a space]

then do the same for P
