Is there a way, for instance, to tell VBA to just put a button at the cursor?

Excel Facts

Enter current date or time
Ctrl+: enters current time. Ctrl+; enters current date. Use Ctrl+: Ctrl+; Enter for current date & time.
Try like this

Code:
Sub addbutton()
Dim btn As Object
Set btn = ActiveSheet.Buttons.Add(ActiveCell.Left, ActiveCell.Top, ActiveCell.Width, ActiveCell.Height)
End Sub
